What’s Really Going On in Financial Sector Cybersecurity?
Ransomware, spearphishing and other kinds of cyberattacks are on the rise according to the 2016 SANS Institute survey gauging the state of risk and security in the financial sector. Survey respondents who were able to quantify their organizations’ losses pegged the damage at between $100,001 and $500,000. However, the good news is that IT security professionals are doing something about the problem, and getting results. The survey report, From the Trenches: SANS 2016 Survey on Security and Risk in the Financial Sector, looks at risks and losses. It also provides recommendations for enhancing visibility, thus improving:
- Risk posture
- Compliance
- Information sharing
- Incident response capabilities
These recommendations are based solely on the experience of veteran IT security professionals in the field.
