The Community Preservation Corporation Deploys CounterACT for NAC and Centralized Policy Management

Affordable Housing Developers Find Cash Connections Fast Over Sanitized Nets, Thanks to CounterACT

Cupertino, Calif. – May 28, 2008 – Forescout Technologies, a market leader in clientless network access control (NAC) and policy management solutions for large enterprises, today announced that the Community Preservation Corporation (CPC), a not-for-profit mortgage lender which services developers of multifamily housing, has deployed the CounterACT® family of NAC appliances in its financial services network.

CPC finances new and existing multifamily rental and new or redeveloped for-sale housing targeted to both low-moderate income and conventional markets throughout the tri-state region comprising New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Sponsored by 70 prominent banks and insurance companies, CPC teams the borrower’s vision and energy with the resources of the public and private sectors.

According to Chris O’Keefe, Director of Information Management at CPC: “We adopted CounterACT to protect our internal network against viruses or malware introduced through visitors" laptops. CounterACT integrated quickly and seamlessly with our existing heterogeneous network. We deployed the CounterACT appliances in less than a day and I was able to use it to audit connected devices for policy compliance and manage real time updates immediately."

CounterACT combines clientless network access control (NAC) and signatureless intrusion prevention to ensure all connected and connecting devices are in compliance with network security policies and are free of self-propagating threats. CounterACT seamlessly integrates into any network environment without requiring costly upgrades or infrastructure changes, and enables enterprises to tailor enforcement actions to match the level of policy violations, ensuring user disruption only occurs when it is warranted or required by the IT staff.

In addition to traditional security issues, today’s enterprises – like CPC – face a steady influx of vulnerabilities introduced by contractors, guests and mobile/home employees who are able to bypass physical security and gain network connection inside the perimeter defenses. CounterACT addresses this problem by enforcing network security policies across all managed and unmanaged network devices, including desktops and laptops as well as non-OS devices such as VoIP phones, handhelds and network printers, without the need for a software agent of any kind.

“With CounterACT, enterprises like CPC have the centralized network access control and policy management tools needed to speed policy compliance," said Ray Wizbowski, vice president of marketing for Forescout. “Using CounterACT’s policy management tools, IT personnel can detect threats in realtime, then draft and push highly granular policies, tailoring enforcements to match the level of violations so that they protect user productivity but minimize user disruption."
