Network Access Control (NAC) Market Will Sustain 22 Percent CAGR and Reach $1 Billion by 2017 Says Ogren Group

Analysts distinguish Forescout as largest independent NAC vendor with greatest market momentum

CUPERTINO, Calif. — April 9, 2013 —A new Ogren Group research report, “Network Access Control: A Strong Resurgence is Underway,”[1] estimates the network access control (NAC) market has grown to $392 million in 2012 and will sustain a strong 22 percent CAGR through 2017, taking the market to more than $1 billion per year. Forescout Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of real-time network security solutions for Fortune 1000 enterprises and government organizations, was identified by Ogren’s analysts as one of the three leading companies along with Cisco and Juniper that together comprise 70 percent of the NAC market. Forescout is growing at an even faster rate than the market, having increased 2012 bookings by more than 66 percent while growing its installed base to 1,400 global customers.

The Ogren report cites several factors underlying the rapid market growth, all addressed effectively by NAC technology:

  • The need for continuous endpoint compliance assessment now extends to mobile consumer devices and tablets with BYOD and CYOD (Choose Your Own Device)
  • The stunning functionality available in tablets and mobile devices
  • The need to gain real-time visibility into all devices as they connect to the network, and to enforce security policies on the devices
  • IT executives now realize that security incidents are inevitable and are prioritizing more broadly based risk management efforts
  • The ubiquity of and preference for wireless connectivity
  • Regulatory compliance rules such as PCI-DSS, ISO 27001, HIPAA and COBIT
  • The growth of 802.1x compliant devices for port-level authentication and control

Of the many companies analyzed, the report states, “Forescout is distinguished as being the largest independent NAC vendor and the one with greatest market momentum. The Forescout CounterACT® product is feature-rich while remaining easy to deploy and administer. The Ogren Group congratulates Forescout for its innovations in the NAC market.” In making its specific assessment, the analysts point to Forescout’s large number of clients, its capability to scale to support very large enterprises, its technology leadership and breadth and its channel programs as reasons for its market success.

“BYOD, cloud and mobile are continuing to drive Forescout and the NAC industry forward and expand its network security role,” said Gord Boyce, CEO of Forescout. “As the perimeter dissolves and companies further leverage enterprise mobility, NAC technology is uniquely solving the visibility and control challenges of devices accessing sensitive corporate resources and data. These market forces underpin our strong market take-up and continued growth outlook going forward.”
