ForeScout Mobile provides IT security managers an easy way to accommodate smartphones and tablets on the company network without compromising security.
Overview
For IT security managers who are looking for a way to extend security controls to personal mobile devices (BYOD) when they are connected to the enterprise network, ForeScout Mobile provides a powerful, integrated and easily deployed solution. ForeScout Mobile is an add-on to ForeScout CounterACT, extending the capabilities of CounterACT to provide unified security management for everything on the network regardless of the type of device (PC, Mac, tablet, smartphone), the type of connection (wired, wireless, VPN) or the owner of the device (corporate or personal).
ForeScout Mobile comes in two different forms: ForeScout Mobile Security Module provides native integration and control for iOS and Android devices. ForeScout Mobile MDM Module provides rich integration between ForeScout CounterACT and your existing third-party MDM system.
ForeScout Mobile Security Module
The ForeScout Mobile Security Module for Android is a CounterACT plug-in and a lightweight app for Android devices. The app collects hardware, software and configuration information for each device on which it is installed and reports this to the CounterACT appliance. This allows CounterACT to determine the compliance of the Android device, restrict network access on the basis of that information, and send automatic notifications to users to help them remediate security problems.
ForeScout Mobile Security Module for iOS natively supports iOS devices such as the iPad and iPhone by employing the Apple Mobile Security Management API and the Apple Push Notification service (APNs), both of which are built into the iOS 4 operating system. Hardware and software inventory details are collected by the iOS device and delivered to the CounterACT appliance. From the CounterACT console, you can configure iOS policies and profiles and apply them over-the-air (OTA) to iOS devices. Actions such as device lock, password change, full wipe, and selective wipe of corporate data can be pushed to the iOS device. No agents are required on the iOS device.
The ForeScout Mobile MDM Module is a CounterACT plug-in that allows you to leverage your existing MDM solution within the broader context of unified security control that ForeScout CounterACT provides. The module brings comprehensive information about all MDM-managed mobile devices to the ForeScout CounterACT appliance, where the information is displayed alongside information about devices that are outside the scope of your MDM system (such as unmanaged mobile devices and PCs). From the ForeScout CounterACT console, you can configure and enforce security policies, monitor and report on policy adherence, and remediate devices through your MDM system.
Take Charge of Mobile Security and Cost-Effectively Tier Your Service
To enable mobile security capacity for both corporate-provisioned and personal mobile devices, organizations can’t solely consider employing MDM solutions enterprise wide – it is costly, often is viewed by employees as a more intrusive application, only applies to smartphones and tablets, and is not suitable for guest management. The more efficient and cost-effective approach is to offer different levels of mobile security to different classes of users, devices and required application access by employing ForeScout CounterACT and ForeScout Mobile to cover basic mobile security requirements or as a necessary complement to MDM implementation.
