Cupertino, Calif. Jan 29, 2007 ForeScout Technologies, a provider of tailored network access control (NAC) for enterprises and government agencies, today announced that Columbus Children's Research Institute (CCRI) has chosen its CounterACT NAC appliance to secure its enterprise for both corporate and non-corporate users. The organization was in search of a NAC solution to control access to both Windows and MAC endpoints for internal users and guests. CCRI also needed a NAC solution to ensure corporate devices were meeting endpoint security policies including up-to-date anti-virus and Windows patches. After testing multiple products, both inline and out-of-band as well as client-based and clientless solutions, CCRI chose ForeScout's CounterACT solution.
"We had specific needs to meet, specifically granting appropriate access to non-corporate and corporate users and ensuring devices met endpoint security policies," said Scott Kowal, Senior Network Engineer at CCRI. "We have visitors and consultants coming in and they need access to the Internet but we need to make sure they can't access research data or financials. After testing a number of products, an out-of band and clientless solution from ForeScout fit our needs best because we were doing an enterprise-wide deployment at the core of our network. CounterACT is also seamless to users—they don't even know their devices are being interrogated because it's non-disruptive. Another reason we chose ForeScout is that we can tailor our enforcement options for groups of users with CounterACT." "CounterACT is the only non-disruptive, clientless NAC solution that moves users right into productivity," said Gord Boyce, global vice president of sales and marketing for ForeScout. "CCRI must be diligent when checking that only the right devices are gaining network access, but they can't stop everything until scanning is done. CounterACT is non-disruptive so business remains up and running while Mr. Kowal can rest assured that every device is still being scanned. We applaud CCRI for its thorough research of NAC solutions and are happy to be working with such a leader in the field." About Columbus Children's Research Institute Columbus Children's Hospital is a 115-year-old pediatric healthcare network which houses the Department of Pediatrics of The Ohio State University College of Medicine. "Adding CounterACT to our network security infrastructure was a 'no-brainer'. ForeScout's appliances accurately detect unknown threats, automatically stop attacking sources in real-time, and do not rely on signatures or manual updates."
