SAN MATEO, Calif. February 4, 2004ForeScout Technologies, Inc. announced today the release of its WormScout 3.0 - a leading solution for suppressing the spread of self-propagating worms. The new enhancements give WormScout increased ability to help business operations run normally as worm infections are automatically identified, immediately contained and eliminated.
Highlights of the new product include Bi-directional Protection, which prevents critical network cells both from infecting the rest of the network and becoming infected themselves. ForeScout's unique Worm Slowdown Mechanism locks infected machines in static dialogue to minimize their draw of network resources and their attempts to spread within vulnerable network cells. In addition, new Port Blocking capabilities allow WormScout to block only services attempting to spread worms, so even infected users can maintain productivity while the attacks are contained. "With the release of WormScout 3.0, ForeScout is addressing very real problems with network integrity," said Eric Ogren, senior analyst with the Yankee Group. "Worms spread automatically and often bypass perimeter protection devices that don't have visibility to certain traffic. Organizations need to have mechanisms like WormScout in place to immediately identify worm infections and suppress their propagation so networks can stay active." ForeScout also has added features that give organizations further control to eliminate vulnerabilities and prevent future outbreaks. The new Open Service Locator allows users to quickly pinpoint any open services on hosts that may be potential targets for worms. To help allocate resources for quick remediation, a full range of enhanced reporting capabilities identify all points of infection during an attack as well as average threat levels of network locations. "Essentially, our goal is to keep businesses running smoothly while worms from infected mobile users and external sources attempt to bring network production to a standstill. The enhancements in WormScout 3.0 are directed at making it more practical and effective to deal with zero-day as well as known worm attacks," said Kent Elliot, CEO of ForeScout Technologies. "We are proud to say our technology has kept customers in operation during massive worm outbreaks and lingering attempts at infection, while other companies may be shut down for hours or even days." |
