Forescout and Rapid7 Partner to Deliver Real-time Assessment and Remediation Capabilities

CAMPBELL, Calif., July 30, 2014 Forescout Technologies, Inc., the leading provider of pervasive network security solutions for Global 2000 enterprises and government organizations, today announced a partnership that will enable Rapid7 Nexpose and Forescout CounterACT® interoperability to address user demand for real-time assessment and mitigation of vulnerabilities, exposures and violations.

Rapid7 Nexpose vulnerability management analyzes vulnerabilities, controls and configurations, and determines compliance with security best practices and external regulations such as PCI, HIPAA, etc. In a planned integration with Forescout CounterACT – a real-time security platform that delivers visibility, intelligence and automated control for devices, users, systems and applications attempting to connect to or are on an enterprise network – and Rapid7 Nexpose, IT organizations will be able to continuously mitigate security exposures by improving the timeliness of risk posture information and automating remediation.

As a member of the Forescout ControlFabric® partner program, Rapid7’s Nexpose will work with CounterACT to enable real-time assessment and policy-based mitigation of endpoint security risks. This includes the ability to perform the following functions:

  • Real-time vulnerability assessment. An integrated CounterACT/Nexpose solution will invoke real-time discovery and assessment of devices as they connect to the network, including the transient ones. CounterACT can detect a device when it connects to the network, or when a monitored property of a network device changes, and at that time can invoke Nexpose to scan the device.
  • Automate remediation and reduce the gap between detection and mitigation of risks. Working together, CounterACT can act on information received from Nexpose to improve compliance by directly remediating endpoints, initiating external remediation processes, and limiting or removing network access of devices that present a high security risk to the network.

“In the past, network security was a kludged collection of security appliances that were ‘bolted’ together sequentially in some cases. Although individual security appliances were optimized, network security as a system was not, both in terms of security efficacy and management oversight and intervention required on the part of security professionals,” said Frank Dickson, industry principal, Network Security, at Frost & Sullivan. “Today’s network security reality is significantly different; the emphasis has dramatically shifted toward the integration and automation of previously disparate security and access technologies, resulting in improved security postures for organization and a reduction in the intervention required by security professionals.”

“Vulnerability management is a core practice security teams must have to manage the attack surface and minimize risk,” said Lee Weiner, SVP Products & Engineering at Rapid7. “By enabling our leading vulnerability management solution to work with Forescout’s CounterACT platform, we can provide customers with a broader approach, not only to uncover and manage vulnerabilities, but also to automate the remediation process.”

“We are pleased to partner with Rapid7, as their solution’s ability to detect and analyze potential vulnerabilities when combined with CounterACT’s ability to deliver both real-time intelligence and policy-based mitigation provide greater operational oversight and effective security,” said Hanan Levin, vice president of Product Management at Forescout. “This planned integration further reinforces the value of our ControlFabric architecture to facilitate seamless interoperability, and ultimately provide customers with pervasive network security solutions.”

Forescout and Rapid7 will demonstrate this integration live in booth 852 at BlackHat USA 2014, August 5-7 in Las Vegas as part of Forescout’s “PlugFest.
