ForeScout Trumps Cisco and 11 Other Network Access Control Vendors in Network World Clear Choice Test, Placing Second to Symantec

Network World Test Diligently Evaluates Authentication/Authorization, Endpoint Assessment/Environment Information, Enforcement and Management; ForeScout Shines

CUPERTINO, Calif.—August 1, 2007 —ForeScout Technologies, a leading provider of clientless network access control (NAC) for Fortune 500 enterprises and government organizations, announced that Network World has given its CounterACT appliance an overall score of 4.38 out of 5 in its comprehensive Clear Choice test of 13 NAC point products (Network World, July 30, 2007). CounterACT placed second only to Symantec's NAC offering, outperforming NAC solutions from Bradford Networks, Check Point Software, Cisco, ConSentry Networks, InfoExpress, Juniper Networks, Lockdown Networks, McAfee, StillSecure, Trend Micro and Vernier Networks.

Mandy Andress, a member of the Network World Lab Alliance, conducted the review. In her introduction article entitled "NAC alternatives hit the mark," Andress noted that ForeScout stood out in the areas of solid NAC functionality, all-around endpoint assessment, remediation functionality and overall management. Some of the specifics from her July 30th review articles include:

ForeScout "provides the best data searching capability to help administrators understand the relationship between devices, users, integrity issues, and remediation. ForeScout provides a web-based network portal that allows authorized users to search based on criteria such as user name, IP address and MAC address, to name a few examples. You can see displayed all the data for a system and see how the system was accessed, what integrity issues the system had, what enforcement actions were taken. You can also run a search and see all the systems a specific user accessed."
"In addition to the standard clients and server used as part of the test bed, CounterAct also identified the VoIP phone, TiVo, and PDA on the network. Overall, using Nmap, a staple tool in any security professional's arsenal, makes the management of all the embedded devices the easiest of all products tested."
The Scorecard cited the following positive aspects about CounterACT: "Endpoint assessment timing can be configured on a check-by-check basis; wide variety of enforcement options; unique network portal is useful for data analysis; one of the stronger reporting engines tested."
