CUPERTINO, Calif.July 18, 2006ForeScout Technologies, a provider of tailored network access control (NAC) for enterprises, today announced that deployment of its clientless NAC solution will enable organizations to comply with recent federal mandates. The Bush administration issued a memo on June 23, 2006 commanding that federal civilian agencies implement new measures within 45 days to protect the security of personal information they maintain on file about millions of employees and citizens. The mandate requires agencies to encrypt all data on laptops and handheld computers, unless the data is classified as "non-sensitive," and also requires two-factor authentication before individuals can access critical network resources.
CounterACT provides clientless NAC with an integrated intrusion prevention system, that ensures that only the right devices, with the right access, can gain access to network resources. In order to gain access to the network, the device must meet the appropriate authentication criteria and compliance polices. To help customers comply with this federal mandate, CounterACT is configured to require that all managed mobile devices attempting to access the network, including laptops, PDAs, and other handheld computers, have the appropriate data encryption software loaded with requisite updates to ensure the highest protection of confidential information. In addition, CounterACT supports tailored policy, in this instance a policy enforcing two-factor authentication regulation (card and domain credentials). Furthermore, CounterACT offers extensive reporting capabilities that allow federal agencies to provide the appropriate documentation to demonstrate compliance within the 45 day window. "This mandate can only be successful if there are mechanisms in place to make certain all laptops are in compliance with the policy requirements," said Michael Landewe, Director of Security Engineering, ForeScout Technologies. "ForeScout's CounterACT can allow administrators to set security polices that ensure devices connecting to the network have the most current encryption software, thereby eliminating the risk that a laptop may unintentionally bypass this security mandate." For more information on the mandate, visit http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/memoranda/fy2006/m06-16.pdf. About CounterACT ForeScout's CounterACT is the only non-disruptive, clientless NAC solution to deliver End Point X-ray™ and Fast Pass™, eliminating the usual mandatory "quarantine upon connection" phase and moving users immediately into productivity. All security checks include deep interrogation for bullet-proof security, but are immediate, transparent and hassle-free to the user. CounterACT also enables extensive policy enforcement options to custom-fit network access control, and scans everything that enters the network, which means laptops, PDA's, printers and desktops are all scanned by ForeScout's clientless and agent-less solution which requires no end point software installation or downloads. Finally, CounterACT ensures no disruption to the network or normal business operations because it is not deployed inline, which means there is no need to upgrade or install new gear and both the network and endpoints remain untouched. |
